How to Lower NetFlix Bandwidth Usage

Written By Ed on September 25, 2014 | 2:00:00 pm

Most ISP carriers cap your monthly usage to a 250GB limit. Of course this depends on what package or plan you have signed up for, but on average a monthly cap of 250GB is normal for most Internet Service Providers. 250GB cap is more than enough if you are not streaming movies, but a good number of people goes  beyond the 250GB cap limit and therefore get charged for overage. A typical HD movie in Nextflix consumes about 3-5GB of bandwidth. If you stream a lot of movies or tv series from Netflix you might go over your monthly limit.  The option below is one way to overcome this issue.

When you sign up with NetFlix, by default your streaming playback configuration is saved to Auto, but you can change the streaming playback quality by following steps below:
                                                                   Figure 1

1. Login to your Netflix Accout.
2. From the top right click on Your Account.
3. Click on Playback Setting.
4. Once your click on PlayBack Setting, you will see figure 1. above
5. Chose a lower quality streaming option.

Although the quality of the movies you will stream in Low streaming mode will suffer, but this is only your last option if you need to lower your bandwidth usage.
