Becky Hammon has been an iconic figure in
the WNBA. She has had a successful career in the WNBA. Back in
the high school, she played at Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota,
where back then she was voted the South Dakota player of the year. In college
she played for the Colorado State Rams, where got the title "Sports Woman
of the Year". She then moved on with her professional career and joined
the New York Liberty in the WNBA where she worked hard
and aggressively and earned the respect of many Liberty fans. She was
the all-time scorer for the team averaging 21 points per game. In
2007 during the WNBA draft she was traded to San Antonio Silver Stars.
In the
WNBA she had many great accomplishments scoring 5000 points total in her WNBA
career. On August
5, 2014 she accepted the Assistance Coach responsibility for the San Antonio
Spurs. As woman I am very excited to see a woman moving up the ladder in
the sporting arena to contribute to the success of the sport. We often
see high ranking and well respected men holding these positions, but this
change to this normal tradition will change the course of sporting history.
As aggressive as
she was as a WNBA player, Becky Hammon needs to work even
harder as the assistant coach. I can see her as the head coach of San
Antonio Spurs in the next few years. She will be the role model for many of
the successful women that are playing professional sports around the
world. She is a charismatic woman and earned
the respect of many fans in the professional Basketball. Her
success as the Assistant Coach will encourage more women to step up the ladder
and contribute to the world of Professional Sports.
