Waitlisted railway passenger soon get confirmation alert through sms.This will make railway journey more n more peaceful.By this new idea all waitlisted passengers will be informed by IRCTC their current status of their reservation whether it is confirmed or RAC as soon as status updated.
"A senior Railway Ministry official said the wait-listed passenger will get a SMS about the status of the ticket on the mobile phone number given at the time of ticket booking. Currently, one has to either dial the enquiry number 139, or use the Internet to know the status of the wait-listed ticket. Users can also get to know the status of their tickets at stations", Said TOI
“Once the SMS-based service is operational, passengers will get the updated status of their wait-listed tickets automatically,” the official said, adding “only those passengers will get the message whose tickets get confirmed.” CRIS, the technological dept of Railways, is making the software for the SMS-based service.
IRCTC has already enables reservation through mobile phone, ussd based / sms based reservation.Recently they launched eWallet facility for instant bookings of railway tickets,Online Shopping through their site.For sms based booking,all you requires to register your mobile number to IRCTC as well as in your bank.Your bank will provide you MMID & OTP for doing payment transaction.All required data such passenger name, age, gender, seat preference are to be send via sms
